Hotel overview

Caesars Atlantic City Hotel & Casino is Caesars "class" property on the Boardwalk.  There is a special VIP check-in across from the main front desk, though it's not open every day.  While small, inside you will find some of the most professional casino hotel employees in Atlantic City.  Don't be surprised to walk in and be addressed by your name after two or three visits.

Parking - Self-parking in an adjacent garage is complimentary for Platinum, Diamond and Seven Stars guests.

Complimentary valet parking for Seven Stars and Diamond cardholders is now available from 4 p.m. Fridays to 4 p.m. Sundays. After hours, call Security to retrieve your vehicle.

Casino players and hotel guests drop-off their cars at the front entrance, but retrieval is upstairs.  Seven Stars cardholders get priority service, usually "guaranteed" at seven minutes or less.  Be sure to show the valet a valid players card to take advantage of this service.

If you use the newer Colosseum self-parking garage, there is priority parking on the seventh floor, but  you can access it only if you enter the garage from South Missouri Avenue – and you will need your Seven Stars card to enter.  Drive very slowly in this garage!  The poorly designed facility practically invites collisions with its two-way traffic pattern and hard to see overhead "Yield" signs. Speeding drivers are all too common, especially around turns to the next level. Many don't realize, or realize too late, that they are not driving on a one-way "street" or make wide turns into oncoming cars.

This casino is equipped with Caesars proprietary Total Touch system that allows customers to order drinks, redeem free play, check their Caesars Rewards account balances, and receive real-time offers based on play.

■ The direct number to Caesars is (609) 348-4411. Select option 3.

■ For those not familiar with Atlantic City, Bally's and Caesars are next to each other. You can walk between them without even going outdoors.

Insider Information

NOTE: All shows, events and deadlines are subject to postponement or cancellation due to temporary casino closings and/or safety and health measures implemented by the state.

Caesars has installed kiosks to speed up check-in and check-out.  They are  located just in front of the registration desk.

Fees and taxes - Caesars adds a $32.21 per day resort fee (which includes a 14 percent state tax) to all room rates, whether for a paid or complimentary stay.  The resort fee includes standard Internet access for up to two devices per room, unlimited local phone calls and a $5 voucher toward parking.  Seven Stars and Diamond cardholders are exempt from the fee, but get all the benefits.Seven Stars cardholders get one complimentary in-room movie every 24 hours. In addition, some guests are responsible for $5 in additional taxes and fees, and sales and occupancy taxes are additional on all paid rooms.

Hotel guestrooms

Centurion Tower - Unlike the ugly brown and orange carpeting in the hotel hallways, the interiors are tasteful and classy.  There are flat screen TVs and even a "secret" small TV embedded in the bathroom mirror.  The only lack of planning and good taste is the strip of Velcro taped to the bathroom wall where you attach the TV remote for storage.  Guestrooms are large and beautifully appointed.  Each has a coffeemaker and small refrigerator.  Wireless Internet service is dependable with a strong signal.  Rooms overlooking the ocean are preferable, but the hotel hosts so many "VIPs" that often rooms with a view are simply not available.

Ocean Tower - This is where you'll find the suites – all which have been totally renovated. Most of the rooms are large, and many have all the amenities one would find in an "old style" Las Vegas casino hotel – Jacuzzis, steam in the showers, large bathrooms, wet bars, draperies that open and close at the touch of a switch, full size dining room tables, etc.

Forum Tower - The rebranded Forum Tower has been completely renovated, but these are the smallest of the rooms and many of them look out over the hotel lobby (and vice versa, which means people can see inside your room!).  I would accept one of these as a last resort or if you can snag a suite.  Standard rooms are OK if you're traveling single, but the bathrooms are very tiny.

Casino overview

Atlantic City law requires all casinos to designate at least 75 percent of gaming space as "non-smoking."

The casino is equipped with Caesars proprietary Total Touch system that allows customers to order drinks, redeem free play, check their Caesars Rewards account balances, and receive real-time offers based on play.

Dealers, slot attendants and servers all are extremely friendly and helpful.  In addition to a full complement of slots and video poker, the casino has 125 table games and offers the highest limits in town.

Entertainment - Circus Maximus, with 1,500 stadium-style seats, frequently features some of Atlantic City's top entertainers, e.g., Jay Leno, Howie Mandel, Julio Iglesias, Tony Bennett, to name a few.

■ If you opt out of housekeeping services during your stay (minimum two-night stay), Caesars will give you a $10 per day food and beverage credit. You still can request additional towels or other amenities, but your bathroom will not be cleaned, bed made, etc. If you didn’t get a pre-arrival email asking you to opt-in, just let the front desk know when you check-in.

■ Select retail outlets at The Playground accept Reward Credits, but at 2:1, i.e., 2,000 RCs = $10.

■ The murals in the Wild Wild West were specified by Las Vegas-based interior design firm Yates-Silverman in 1997.  They were painted on canvas by a company called Evergreene Architectural Arts in Manhattan and shipped to Atlantic City where local painters installed them like wall covering.

Thursday is Men's Day at The Salon.  Haircuts and manicures are each $20.

The special Seven Stars entrance to the

Palace Court Buffet is on the left.

Dining - The Asian gaming area is a beautiful addition to the downstairs casino and there is an adjacent small Asian restaurant and noodle bar, Kwi Noodle House.  Other than Kwi, the casino offers Nero's Italian Steakhouse for steak, seafood and pasta.  There also is the Palace Court Buffet and the 24-hour Tazza in the hotel lobby.

Nero's Sunday brunch is now ala carte.

Betty's Backroom, located in the area that was the original home of Nero's is open, but only on Saturdays.  Since the debut of Nero’s Italian Steakhouse, this area had been used for private functions and "spillover" during special Seven Stars events.  Chef Maurizio DiMarco, chef at the shuttered Arturo's, Bally's former "gourmet" Italian restaurant, recreates his magic in the kitchen.  To make a reservation, email Betty McHugh at McHughB@Caesars.com or call 609-343-2852.Caesars "coffee shop" – Café Roma – offers surprisingly good (and reasonably priced) entrées at dinnertime; however, breakfast prices are a little on the high side, compared to other casinos' coffee shops.Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill has opened in the location formerly occupied by Mia.

Morton's The Steakhouse is also located on the first floor casino level near the front entrance.  [If you're going to become a "regular" at Morton's be sure to join the frequent diner's club – Landry's Select Club.  The cost is $25, but, in turn, you'll receive a $25 coupon you can use at any Landry's restaurant, plus two more coupons good for up to a $40 entree – one for you, and one for your companion (but you must sign up a companion to get both of these).  Each will arrive about 30 days before your birthday(s) and are good for up to six months.]

For a break from the casino action, have a cocktail at the Toga Bar off the first floor casino or 2100 Bar & Lounge, below, off the second floor casino. The newly re-branded 2100 Bar & Lounge near the entrance to The Playground is the former 21 Bar that closed last year bar along with the now shuttered Dusk Nightclub.

Beginning Memorial Day, Caesars Beachside Bar Atlantic City, formerly The Backyard Bar, is open on the Boardwalk.  Check the webpage for hours of operation.

Shopping - Connected by a covered walkway from the second-level casino is The Playground, a collection of retail stores and restaurants.

Wild Wild West

Formerly part of Bally's, the Wild Wild West casino is now part of Caesars.

Coyote Kate's

Coyote Kate's Slot Parlor was recarpeted a few years ago, some new slot machines were brought in (some "old" ones remain), and the floor has been reconfigured.  In the area with the fake mountain, the holiday light-decorated cactus, and the Disney-esque animatronic prospector and his mule were, the emphasis is now on a younger, less affluent crowd.  There is an unobstructed view into that area from the Boardwalk, and there are two larger passageways between Coyote Kate's and this new table games area. The Mountain Bar is open Friday. Saturday and Sunday, but hours vary. In addition, there is a stage for entertainment, a large open floor for dancing, beer pong, and some slot machines.

The Boardwalk Saloon, an indoor/outdoor bar, has opened, along with Guy’s Bar-B-Que Joint, and the AC Snack Shack that specializes in burgers and tacos.  An outdoor seating area is available seasonally.

A World Series of Poker room is open at the front entrance off Pacific Avenue.

Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill has a small private room that would be ideal for a Seven Stars or Diamond Celebration Dinner.

Qua Baths & Spa offers "Mid-Week Indulgences" Monday through Thursday. Click above to enlarge the "menu".

■ To get the Laurel Lounge current hours of operation and menu for the day, call 609-348-4411. Press Option 2.

■ There is a $5.99 per transaction fee to use the ATMs.

The kiosks are located near the Caesars Rewards Center.

■ Tazza accepts Reward Credits, but at a 2:1 ratio, i.e., 1,000 Rewards Credits = $5. Morton's The Steakhouse generally accepts Reward Credits at a 2:1 ratio, but sometimes accepts them at 1:1, so be sure to ask.

■ If you have comp dollars earned through Golden Nugget's 24K Select Club  you can use them at Morton's or next door at the Rainforest Cafe.

With the legalization of sports betting in New Jersey, the Wild Wild West is home to a more than 15,000-sq. ft. William Hill Sportsbook, above. The venue is the “largest in South Jersey and possibly the state of New Jersey,” according to Caesars Entertainment Inc. The LED video screen is 18 feet high and 98 feet long.

The space also includes more than 100 leather recliners, below left, and five "Fan Caves" – which can be reserved for a price – for personalized game-viewing experiences.

Wagering windows are located behind the seating area, below left, and there is a 16-tap self-service beer wall, similar to the set-up at The LINQ in Las Vegas..

Caesars Rewards cardholders earn one Reward Credit and one tier credit for every $10 they bet, but it can take up to 24 hours to register.

Here’s a quick breakdown of rental options at the sportsbook. Prices and availability are subject to change:

Customers can even reserve just a single seat if they plan to enjoy football alone. This Stadium Seat, as well as the Stadium Table for four, is paid for by a minimum spend on food and drink. But the seat is yours for the whole day. Whatever your choice, all sportsbook reservations can be made online. On a side note: Wild Wild West will more than likely have food and drink specials for the football season. These will be announced closer to kickoff.

Dining - Gold Tooth Gertie's at the base of the escalator leading from Caesars next door, is open seasonally and hours vary.  It offers everything from bagels and pastries in the morning, to pizza and hot dogs in the afternoon.

Your only alternative for breakfast is Gold Tooth Gertie's (seasonal).

Light lunches are available at Gertie's, or, for something more substantial, there's Guy's Bar-B-Que Joint and the AC Snack Shack.  Hours vary depending on the season and the day of the week, so check their websites.

Check out Boardwalk Cupcakes for some great desserts and other sweet treats.

Caesars Rewards Center

The Caesars Rewards Center is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Special Seven Stars benefits*

Seven Stars cardholders and a guest are entitled to complimentary daily access to Qua Baths &  Spa's fitness center and "Roman Rituals" (a $50 per person value).  Any treatments are extra, but are available at a 20 percent discount.  Note, though, that there is a 20 percent mandatory gratuity which is added to the price of services.  (Advertised specials – which are not eligible for the 20 percent discount – are generally exclusive of taxes and gratuity.)  In addition, Seven Stars guests are entitled to a complimentary "enhancement" when they book any treatment.  Click here to see what's offered.

(In addition to Qua, Caesars also has a salon for men's and women's haircuts, manicures, pedicures, etc., located on the second level just before the elevators to the Centurion Tower.  You can use your Reward Credits at a 1:1 ratio.)

Seven Stars (and Diamond) cardholders and a guest are entitled to complimentary admission to Caesars Rooftop Pool.  The pool is open seasonally for hotel guests and guests registered at Qua 21 years and older.

While there is a 10 percent check-cashing fee, Seven Stars cardholders get the fee back in the form of free play.  In other words, if you want $1,000, your checking account will be debited $1,100, but you’ll get $1,000 in cash and $100 in free play.  If you sign up for e-Checks, there is no charge.  Write a check for $1,000, get $1,000.

Seven Stars cardholders get complimentary beach chair rental (up to two chairs), an umbrella and two towels.  A Companion cardholder with a room key can get the same.

Look for the special Seven Stars/Diamond entrances to Café Roma.  If the line is long, discreetly step to the head of the line and show your Caesars Rewards card.  (Keep in mind that there might be a more patient Seven Stars cardholder waiting in the line.)

The Palace Court Buffet has a separate line for Seven Stars cardholders.

The front desk will print your boarding passes if VIP Check-In is closed.

Seven Stars Lounge

Caesars is home to Atlantic City's second Seven Stars Lounge (the other is at Harrah's).  Located on the "fine dining level" – actually, the third floor of the casino – the lounge is smaller than the lounge at Harrah's. The large rectangular bar in the center of the room is its most distinctive feature.  Formerly the Bacchanal, the lounge offers a small menu and orders are delivered tableside or at the bar. Currently, the lounge is open:

Monday & Thursday: 2 to 9 p.m.

Friday & Saturdays: 2 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Sundays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Did you ask?  I didn't.

Seven Stars cardholders are now limited to one guest – previously three – plus their Companion cardholder.  Cardholders who earned 500,000 or more tier credits last year or this year may continue to bring up to three guests.

NOTE: There is a time limit of 1½ hours; however, I've never seen anyone kicked out.

NOTE: Diamond Elite members and one guest can enjoy the Seven Stars Lounge for 15 comp dollars (1,500 Reward Credits) per person.

When the Seven Stars Lounge is not open, the large Laurel Lounge (formerly Diamond Lounge) overlooking the Atlantic Ocean offers priority entrance to Seven Stars cardholders.  If there are others waiting to get in, simply walk in and present your card to the host.  At extremely busy times when there is often a long line – especially when the lounge first opens – a security guard may be stationed at the door monitoring "traffic".  Again, simply show your card to him/her, and you will receive immediate entrance. There is a bar which seats approximately 20 people.  [Be sure to say "hi" to Anthony and Frank.  (Frank also works in the Seven Stars Lounge.)  They'll take good care of you.]  At 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and during opening hours on Saturday and Sunday, there is a full buffet consisting of cold cuts, salads, desserts and at least three, if not more, hot entrées.  Drinks may be taken out of the lounge, but only after being decanted into plastic cups available at the door.

Hours (subject to change)

Friday and Saturday: 2 to 10 p.m.

NOTE: A lighter lunch buffet is served until 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and more substantial fare is served from 5 p.m.

Due to special events and holidays, the Laurel Lounge may be closed or alter its hours.

NOTE: There is a 15 comp dollar (1,500 Reward Credits) per person admission charge for Diamond cardholders, but admission is complimentary for Diamond Plus, Diamond Elite and Seven Stars cardholders.

Getting around Atlantic CityThe Caesars Rewards Shuttle now includes Tropicana Atlantic City on its route. The circuit makes stops at Gate 11 in Caesars bus terminal, at the outside entrance to Harry's Oyster Bar at Bally's, outside Harrah's casino entrance on Harrah's Boulevard, and at the Tropicana Transportation Center in spots 6, 7 and 8. The shuttle runs Sunday to Tuesday and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Riders must have a valid Caesars Rewards card and ID. Cardholders may bring one guest. Seven Stars cardholders get priority boarding. Other restrictions apply.

Getting to the casino from the airport

If you're unable to get complimentary transportation, in addition to taxis, which run about $35, there are a number of private car and limousine services. For assistance call Operations at ext. 2002 from the courtesy phone at the taxi service desk, between baggage claim and the terminal exit.

Rideshare is available through UBER and LYFT.

Should you choose this for your Annual Retreat?

Atlantic City is a premier destination for "locals" throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

With two other Caesars properties in town (Harrah's and Tropicana), The Playground across the Boardwalk from Caesars, and relaxing on the beach (weather permitting), it would be easy to spend four nights (and $500) here – especially since you can "cross charge" to your room any meals, spa treatments, etc., but only if they take place at Harrah's.

When you check-in, be sure to verify that your $500 comp account has been set-up. Alcohol charged to the room counts toward your $500 in expenses, but not gratuities for meals and spa treatments.  Best advice is to keep all your receipts until you settle your final bill.

There are many direct and connecting flights into Atlantic City's local airport (15 minutes from the Boardwalk), but many guests fly into Philadelphia International Airport and either rent a car or arrange limousine service.  One advantage to having a car is the ability to make a day trip to charming Cape May, or many of the other nearby Jersey Shore attractions.  While round-trip airport transportation to your destination property is included as part of your Seven Stars trip, Caesars will not credit you the cost of this toward your rental car.  Another option would be to take a limo from the airport, then rent a car in Atlantic City for a day or two, returning the car before your departure.  Other than a Hertz outlet at Harrah's Resort, rental cars are available only at the Atlantic City airport.
