Casino overview

Open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 a.m., the single-level casino, left, is totally non-smoking by Illinois law. However, to accommodate smokers, the property offers a covered outdoor smoking deck adjacent to the casino.

Conveniently located adjacent to the hotel’s main lobby, the casino features 830 slots, 26 table games with a World Series of Poker room, as well as a lounge, three bars, and an entertainment stage with live music and food every weekend.

The casino was formerly located on a riverboat with three decks of gambling which closed in November 2014. The new casino is located on the site of the former convention center.

While soft drinks, juices, coffee, tea and bottled water are complimentary, Illinois state law prohibits distribution of complimentary alcoholic beverages. Reward Credits may not be used for the purchase of alcohol on the casino floor, in the bars or in the restaurants.

Dining

Fresh Buffet offers Southern and country-style cooking and is open Thursday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday.

Harrah's fine dining option, Bridges Dining Company, serves Black Angus steaks, "distinctive Southern dishes" and classics. It's also open for breakfast and lunch.

The Signature Bar serves late-night snacks such as hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken wings and pizza.

Should you choose this for your Annual Retreat?

In 1972 DC Comics declared Metropolis the “home of Superman”. Every June the city hosts the “Superman Celebration” where comic book collectors and Superman enthusiasts come from all over the world (www.metropolistourism.com/).

Historically, not many Seven Stars cardholders have taken their trips at Harrah's Metropolis. Those who do use their trips to Metropolis often take advantage of its unique and robust hunting and fishing opportunities. Hunters travel from all over the country in the fall/winter to take advantage of nearby deer hunting and duck/geese hunting. The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is the largest inland peninsula in the United States and has great fishing, hiking, campgrounds, cabins, etc.

Other activities and opportunities in the area include local wine trails (wine lovers enjoy the wineries in the area), and/or take in special events in Nashville, e.g., Country Music Awards, Tennessee Titans football, etc.

Harrah's Metropolis participates in the Pet Stay program. Click here for details.

It is very safe in Metropolis and you can walk around, but for the guest looking for a lot of things to do on foot – like you get in more metropolitan areas, Metropolis can’t provide it. The casino is right on the river which offers some beautiful sunsets/scenery in the summer/spring. When guests leave to walk around, they often will go up to visit the Superman statue to get their picture taken and walk by the Superman gift shops. In addition, guests can also walk to a few "mom and pop" boutiques. If you are looking for quiet and quaint, this is it. While you can't walk there, just a few minutes away is the bridge to Paducah, Ky. There is some additional fine dining in downtown Paducah and a little bit more retail. Paducah is the home of the National Quilt Museum, Paducah was named the seventh City of Crafts & Folk Art in the world by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Barkley Regional Airport in Paducah is less than 15 miles from the casino. This is a very intimate regional airport which has very little traffic which allows guests to easily get in and out. Some guests also have used the Nashville International Airport. Nashville is about 150 miles away and takes about 2½ hours to drive.
