There is a special Seven Stars/Diamond check-in opposite the front desk, and the friendly folks there also will take care of dining and spa reservations for you, as well as print airline boarding passes for eligible passengers.

Hotel overview

Harrah's Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino rises up behind its lakeside "cousin" Harveys across the street, offering additional restaurants and facilities that nicely complement any stay in Lake Tahoe, whether at Harrah's or Harveys. (You can walk between the two properties by way of an underground passageway, or simply walk across the street.)

Inside Information

NOTE: All shows, events and deadlines are subject to postponement or cancellation due to temporary casino closings and/or safety and health measures implemented by the state.

■ The direct phone number to Harrah's is 775-588-6611.

■ If you are trying to qualify for bonus tier credits, and you are playing both at Harveys and Harrah's, you will have to keep track of credits earned at each. The total daily points shown at each casino are solely those you earned at that casino.

■ If you're a golfer, it's worth asking a host about discounts at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Outdoor self-parking is complimentary for Seven Stars cardholders (see below), but it's a bit of a walk if you have lots of luggage. Take advantage of the complimentary valet parking instead.

A small coed fitness center is available to all guests on a complimentary basis, but Reflections Spa requires an additional admittance charge – which used to be complimentary for Seven Stars cardholders and their guests. Seven Stars cardholders do get a 20 percent discount on services (see below).

Harrah's participates in the Pet Stay program. Click here for details.

Hotel guestroomsPremium and Executive Rooms offer stunning views of Lake Tahoe and/or the surrounding Sierras. High-speed Internet access is dependable, and there are refrigerators in the Executive Rooms. Decor is pleasant and the rooms spacious.

Casino overview

There is nothing particularly distinctive about Harrah's, and it features all the usual slots and table games. Complimentary drink service in the casino is relatively frequent; and dealers, slot attendants and servers all are extremely friendly and helpful.

Harrah's South Shore Room hosts groups representing rock, blues, country and classics, plus there is a nightclub, Peek. "Lounge" acts perform periodically on the center stage behind the main casino bar.

Dining is where Harrah's really shines. Located on the top floor of Harrah's and offering spectacular views is Friday's Station Steak & Seafood Grill. Any confusion with the TGIFriday's chain is purely coincidental.

Formerly open 24 hours seven days a week, the American River Cafe is open 6:30 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. all other days. [Hours subject to change.]

Finally, the Forest Buffet, also located on the top floor, is considered the best buffet in Lake Tahoe. Even if you don't like buffets, go for breakfast or lunch and enjoy the view. The Highlander Bar at the buffet is a great place for drinks at sunset and also is open for late-night dining, 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. [Hours subject to change.] You'll also find table seating and video poker.

There is also a "food court" which includes Fatburger and Thai Asian. NOTE: Neither Fatburger nor Thai Asian accepts Caesars Rewards Quick Rewards or comp slips.

Parking

Harrah’s now charges for parking, but Seven Stars, Diamond and Platinum cardholders are exempt. Here are the details:

Valet - Present your Caesars Rewards card to the attendant.

Outdoor Self-Parking - Present your Caesars Rewards card to the parking attendant who will be stationed at the entrance to the parking area. If you do not have your card with you, insert your parking ticket and players card into the pay kiosk at multiple points inside the building and garage.

If you have questions, visit the Caesars Rewards Center/Cage Cashier.

Special Seven Stars benefits*

Lift tickets - Complimentary lift tickets no longer are available, but Harrah's and Harveys "are still open to reimbursement based on play if you choose to purchase your own lift tickets,” according to Jason Brookes, casino marketing supervisor.

Improv - Seven Stars cardholders may receive up to two free tickets to the Improv at Harveys.

Tahoe Star cruise - Explore the beauty of the largest alpine lake in North America on Bill Harrah's private yacht, right. Seven Stars cardholders get four tickets per year and Diamond cardholders get two. [Seasonal - Check for valid dates.]

Reflections Spa - Seven Stars cardholders receive a 20 percent discount on spa services.

Complimentary cocktails - Show your Seven Stars card at any casino bar for a complimentary cocktail.

Note that, while the cruise also is listed as a benefit for Harveys, Seven Stars cardholders may not combine these offers. In other words, there is a limit of four yacht tickets per Seven Stars cardholder.

Seven Stars Lounge

There is no Seven Stars Lounge, but the Laurel Lounge (formerly the Diamond Lounge) offers priority entrance to Seven Stars cardholders. Before your first visit stop by the cashier in the High Limits area to get an access card, right. From 4 to 6 p.m. when food is being served, there is a host on duty; when food is not being served you simply insert your card near the entrance and walk in. Soft drinks and coffee are self-service, and the bartender may ask you to show your special player's card and identification. Food service is limited (two hot appetizers, e.g., meatballs and chicken skewers, salad, soup, potato chips, pretzels, etc.). Drinks may be taken out of the club into the casino.

Operating hours – always subject to change, so check first – are:

Monday - Thursday: 4 to 9 p.m.

Friday: 4 to 10 p.m.

Saturday: 2 to 10 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Caesars Rewards Center

The Caesars Rewards Center shares space with the Main Cage and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Should you choose this for your Annual Retreat?

Lake Tahoe is an absolutely gorgeous place to be during any time of the year. But, remember that weather may make it difficult to get there during the winter, so plan accordingly. You will probably fly into Reno and take a limo or rent a car to get to Tahoe. Depending on what time your flight arrives, and your originating location, you may want to consider spending the night at Harrah's Reno before making the trek to Tahoe.

In addition, Seven Stars cardholders staying at Harrah's are invited to visit the Laurel Lounge across the street at Harveys.

With Harveys (and its selection of restaurants) across the street, Reflections spa, skiing in the winter/boating and swimming in the summer, Harrah's should be a popular destination for Seven Stars trips. It would be easy to spend four nights (and $500) here – especially since you can "cross charge" to your room any meals, spa treatments, etc., even if they take place at Harveys.

When you check-in, be sure to verify that your $500 comp account has been set-up. Alcohol charged to the room counts toward your $500 in expenses, but not gratuities for meals and spa treatments. Any taxes on food, liquor and spa services are waived, and are not counted toward your $500 in allowable expenses. Best advice is to keep all your receipts until you settle your final bill.
