Pitching horseshoes has taken on a whole new meaning in Cleveland – a least at the Horseshoe Casino. The Horseshoe sign and large horseshoe at the top of the building above the parking garage walkway over Ontario Street have been removed. “It's the very first sign to come down,” said spokeswoman Shannon Mortland. “We will take everything down then wait for the transition and put up the Jack [Entertainment] signs.” [Jack Entertainment, formerly known as Rock Gaming, now manages and operates the Horseshoes in Cleveland and Cincinnati, as well as ThistleDown Racino.] Horseshoes and horse references throughout the four floors of the casino and the exterior will be removed also. The former Horseshoe sign will be replaced by a 750-square-foot sign that includes a vertical “JACK” with “Casino” below it. The white letters will have red on the edges and be backlit. A sign facing Public Square will be more subtle. The dark awnings with horseshoes on the first floor windows will be replaced with red awnings with white “JACK Casino.”
Casino Overview
Horseshoe Casino Cleveland is located in the historic Higbee Building in downtown Cleveland. (Those familiar with the film A Christmas Story might recognize the store as the setting where Ralphie asks Santa for a Red Ryder BB gun.) The 96,000 square-foot casino has four floors and features approximately 2,100 slot machines, 65 table games and a 30-table World Series of Poker room. By Ohio law, the entire casino is smoke-free.
Slots and table games are on the first and second floors; the poker room – offering bad-beat jackpots in Hold 'em, Omaha and Seven-Card Stud – is on the third floor. The casino is equipped with Caesars proprietary Total Touch system that allows customers to order drinks, redeem free play, check their Total Rewards account balances, and receive real-time offers based on play. At table games there are "ambassadors" with iPads taking drink orders and notifying servers electronically. Ohio law prohibits serving complimentary alcoholic beverages on the casino floor.
TAG Lounge & Bar, an electronic gaming and entertainment venue, is located on Level 2.
As you enter from the Skywalk TAG greets you with a color palette of bold reds and browns, as well as plush lounge seating. It features 40 electronic table games including blackjack, roulette and craps.
A full-service sports bar, TAG has electronic table games embedded in the bar top and 15 flat-screen TVs above the bar. An additional 20 TVs fill the remainder of the lounge to provide access to a variety of entertainment throughout the lounge and gaming areas.
There also are TAG bars at The LINQ in Las Vegas and at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore Wednesdays are Super Senior Wednesdays. Players 55 and older should swipe their Total Rewards card to be eligible for drawings at noon, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m. Five winners each hour will receive $55 in free play.
Hotel Guestrooms
Horseshoe Casino Cleveland does not have its own hotel, but three are within walking distance:
Seven Stars cardholders qualify for complimentary rooms – subject to availability – at each of these hotels. The comp includes valet parking, Internet service and up to three in-room movies daily.
Dining Options
Because the casino is located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, and already there are many fine dining options, the only choices in the casino are The Spread Buffet (located in the basement), the Doubledown Cafe at the Welcome Centre in the Collection Auto Group Centre near the Welcome Centre, or a Food Court with the following outlets:
All of the above accept Reward Credits (comp dollars) on a 1:1 basis, using the Quick Rewards system.
Several restaurants in downtown Cleveland will accept Total Rewards credits, but you first must visit VIP Services on the third floor of the casino to exchange your Reward Credits for a comp (200 Reward Credits = $1, except Muse in the Ritz-Carlton which accepts comps on a 1:1 basis). Take that comp to any of the following restaurants: Bo Loong, Corner Alley, Crossroads at House of Blues, Foundation Room, Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, Johnny's Morton's, Muse, Pho Thang Cafe, Pickwick & Frog, Osteria, Otani, Saigon, Siam Cafe, Taza and XO Prime Steaks.
Special Seven Stars Benefits
All others must play slots for at least 30 minutes and earn 15 tier points, or play one hour on a table game. If you don’t meet those requirements, parking rates will vary based on city events. Standard daily rates are: 0-1 Hour = $12, 1-2 Hours = $15, 2-4 Hours = $18, 4-6 Hours = $22, 6-24 Hours = $30, Daily Max = $30. Parking rates will increase if there are special events going on. The Special Event Rate is $45; if multiple events are taking place, the cost is $60. Seven Stars Lounge
There is no Seven Stars Lounge, but there is a Diamond Lounge on the third floor. Unlike at several other Diamond Lounges, cocktails are not complimentary, but they are priced sinoless than the bars in the casino or what you would pay on the casino floor. Premium liquors start at $5, and beer and wine at $4. Food is served from 5 to 9 p.m. daily, but it's limited to some cold salads and desserts. Servers pass small plates of hot items. Currently, the hours are Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 2 a.m.
Spa Benefits
The Horseshoe has arrangements with the Marengo Luxury Spa and Addictions Salon & Spa, similar to agreements with certain area restaurants. Reward Credits are accepted at a 2:1 ratio, but comp slips must be obtained in advance at VIP Services on the third floor. Again, plan in advance, since any unused comp dollars will not be returned to your account.
Should You Choose This For Your Annual Retreat? If you like a downtown urban location, this might be a possibility. In place of the standard $500 folio credit to your hotel room, because there is no official "casino hotel" Total Rewards will add 50,000 Reward Credits to your account which you can then use any way you want.
Also, note that casinos without hotels are under no obligation to host your annual retreat, a Diamond Aspiration trip, or even provide you with a complimentary hotel room during any visit.
