Harrah's Las Vegas

(click any image to enlarge)

Harrah's Las Vegas has a strong cadre of diehard supporters who wouldn't stay anywhere else.  Others
like me stayed there once, and swore never to return again.   It is one of the company's least distinctive properties in "Sin City."

There is a special Diamond/Platinum check-in at the main entrance to the hotel (which is the rear entrance to the casino).   Look for the small Seven Stars placard.

Self-parking in an adjacent garage is complimentary, but, depending on which space you find, it can be a bit of a walk if you have lots of luggage.  Instead, take advantage of the complimentary valet parking.

Hotel Guestrooms

Rooms in the Carnaval South Tower, right, have been remodeled and redecorated.  Blue chairs bring a pop of color to the rooms’ cream-colored décor, dark wood accents and contemporary fixtures.

In addition, Harrah’s is promoting its “all-new Valley Tower Executive King rooms.”  The Valley Tower contains Harrah’s newly remodeled rooms previously part of the Carnaval Tower.

Participates in the PetStay program.
While there certainly is nothing wrong with the other rooms at Harrah's, they simply lack originality.  "Inspired by Marriott" is the operative phrase to describe the look.

There are no refrigerators or coffeemakers, but they may be sent upon request.

Casino Overview

The large casino meanders from its Strip entrance back toward the hotel lobby, but it's a little on the dark side with low ceilings.  You'll find all the features and typical slots and table games one would expect.  Complimentary drink service in the casino is relatively frequent; and dealers, slot attendants and servers all are extremely friendly and helpful.

Insider Tip

Active-duty members of the military can enjoy a free burger, fries and beer year round at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill.

Harrah's main showroom features the Mac King Comedy Magic Show and an occasional "headliner" (such as the Righteous Brothers).

"Menopause the Musical" and "X Country" "Kick'n Topless Revue" take place in Harrah's Cabaret (formerly The Improv).  There also is a piano bar.

In addition, there is nightly live music in Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill (which also serves food from 11 a.m. daily).

Dining Options

Other dining options include the Oyster Bar, the excellent Flavors Buffet (again, look for the special Seven Stars entrance), Ruth's Chris Steak House and Fulton Street Food Hall, which is open 24 hours and has everything from salads to pastries and sandwiches and pizza.  Ice Pan,
across from the Diamond Lounge, is closed and will reopen as a Ben & Jerry's.  There's a Starbucks in the lobby on the casino level which is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.  The promenade location, across from the Diamond Lounge, is open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Special Seven Stars Benefits*

In addition to the special entrances for the buffet and café (see above), as well as a dedicated taxi line, Seven Stars cardholders and a guest receive complimentary entry to the spa and fitness center.

Seven Stars Lounge
There is no Seven Stars Lounge, but the Diamond Lounge offers priority entrance to Seven Stars cardholders.  If there are others waiting to get in, simply walk directly into the lounge and present your card to the host.  The club frequently fills to capacity, so even Seven Stars cardholders may be temporarily denied entrance.

Insider Tip

The complimentary shuttle between Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino and Bally’s has been discontinued, but the shuttle between Rio and Harrah’s is still in operation. You’ll need to show your Total Rewards players card in order to board. The shuttle runs daily 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. from Rio’s Carnival World Buffet entrance. Pick-up times are approximately every 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. At Harrah’s the shuttle departs from the Shuttle/Bus/Trolley drop-off. The service is wheelchair and electric scooter accessible, but does not take guests who have luggage.

Especially during televised sporting events, the lounge can take on the atmosphere of a rowdy sports bar.  There are simply too many television screens which detract from what could be a relaxing and inviting private club experience.

There is a large square bar at the entrance (look for bartenders Ray and Jim), and two computers for guests to check email or print airline boarding passes.  Guests used to the comparatively "lavish" buffets in Atlantic City will be extremely disappointed at the lounge fare in Las Vegas.  Caesars apparently has put all its Diamond Lounges on a "Mediterranean Diet," but it's a tasty selection of hummus, pita triangles, pretzels, potato chips, bruschetta, etc., and while many will disagree, it's a nice change of pace from the hoagies and hot dogs that used to be the main attraction.  Starting at 4 p.m. (until it runs out), the lounge serves hot food, e.g., chicken wings, mini-burritos, etc.

Should You Choose This For Your Annual Retreat?

Commendation (from a reader)

"Bruce Davis, my executive casino host, is absolutely the best.  He will do whatever he can for me and/or a friend or relative visiting.  He lets me know which shows are free in  a given month, he looks me up on the floor every trip and we have a good conversation – business and family stuff for both of us.  He will check up on any and every complaint and/or suggestion I might have.  In other words, he is the 'host with the most'."
Las Vegas remains the gaming mecca in the United States, and is probably the most popular destination for Seven Stars trips.  With eight other Caesars properties in town (Bally's, Caesars Palace, The Cromwell, Flamingo, The LINQ, Rio, Planet Hollywood and Paris), dozens of restaurants, nightclubs, golf, showrooms, the Forum Shops at Caesars (and other shops located inside Caesars properties), spa treatments, and relaxing by the pool (weather permitting), it would be easy to spend four nights (and $500) here – especially since you can "cross charge" to your room any meals, spa treatments, etc., even if they take place at another Caesars property in Las Vegas.  For those without other transportation, complimentary shuttles for Total Rewards® members run regularly among several of the Caesars-owned casinos.

When you check-in, be sure to verify that your $500 comp account has been set-up. Alcohol charged to the room counts toward your $500 in expenses, but not gratuities for meals and spa treatments.  Best advice is to keep all your receipts until you settle your final bill.
