Opened in 1974, Harrah's Louisiana Downs Casino and Racetrack is a horse racing track and racino located in Bossier City, La., built by shopping center developer Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., of Cleveland.  He also developed ThistleDown Racino in North Randall, Ohio, and Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Harrah's Entertainment (now Caesars Entertainment) purchased the track in 2002.  The track is home to the Grade II Super Derby, a race run each September since 1980 at the classic distance of 1¼ miles (2,000 m).  The race often attracts winners and top finishers from the American Classic Races.  The Thoroughbred meet takes place from early May through October.  A quarter horse meet is held from January through March.

Both valet and self-parking are complimentary, but Seven Stars cardholders get priority service.

Casino Overview
Harrah’s Louisiana Downs' 150,000 sq. ft. casino has more than 1,300 slots in denominations ranging from penny machines to $100 games.

Complimentary cocktails are served from a roving cart, and the casino has two self-service beverage stations where customers can help themselves to complimentary coffee and soft drinks

NOTE:
If you're playing to earn a daily tier bonus, and you're playing at both the Louisiana Downs and the Horseshoe, you'll have to manually calculate your combined tier credits. The amount shown as your daily play on the kiosk reflects only your score at the casino in which you are playing.

Federally-taxable jackpots of $1,200 or more also are subject to a mandatory six percent Louisiana state income tax – withheld even if you are not a Louisiana resident.  Nonresidents must file a Louisiana state income tax form in order to recoup this, probably not worth the time and expense unless you have substantial winnings in a calendar year.

Louisiana Downs offers both simulcasting and live racing.  Click here to access the Harrah's Web site where you can view a current schedule of races.

Unlike the adjacent casino, the racetrack allows guests younger than 21.  There is even an arcade on the first level of the track.

Dining
Dining choices at Louisiana Downs include Fuddruckers, the Market Place Cafe, and the Paddock Bar & Grill on the track level, and Harrah's Club (with seating overlooking the track and a minimum purchase of $30 per person) on the third level.
  All accept Reward Credits.
